Altus Group is hiring a Data Scientist to support Altus Labs, the firm’s commercial real estate hub for innovation. In this role, you will apply new data, methodologies, and technology to develop analytics that drive better client outcomes. You’ll build data solutions through statistical modeling, feature engineering, machine learning, and AI, collaborating closely with other Data Scientists, economists, and technology stakeholders.
What You'll Do
- Ideate and evaluate potential features, then clean and transform raw data into usable features for analysis.
- Validate key data insights with stakeholders and quantify risks to inform smart decisions on features and models.
- Prototype product success using innovative tools and iterate based on stakeholder feedback.
- Perform exploratory data analysis, feature selection, model selection, hyperparameter tuning, evaluation, validation, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and Operations Managers to improve data science quality and efficiency.
- Ask discovery questions, flag risks early, and facilitate trade-off discussions to avoid premature conclusions.
- Translate complex data science concepts and project value to non-technical stakeholders.
- Create prototype demos and present findings to senior management to support go/no-go recommendations.
- Establish new modeling approaches and pipelines by documenting best practices based on solid statistical principles.
What We're Looking For
- A collaborative communicator who works independently and within a team to share insights.
- Passion for scaling impact through collaboration and succeeding together.
- A methodological, curious, and experiment-driven scientific approach.
- 2+ years of experience in data science or applied economics.
- BS or MS degree in Economics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- Strong background in statistics/econometrics: hypothesis testing, regression, time series, tree-based models, clustering, and anomaly detection.
- Programming proficiency in SQL and Python across the full model lifecycle: ETL, feature engineering, tuning, evaluation, and deployment.
- Comfort brainstorming, receiving feedback, and iterating with a growth mindset.
- Experience with GitHub, version control, and collaborative coding workflows.
- Skill writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code with attention to performance and cost.
- Experience working in cloud environments and handling large, complex datasets.
Nice to Have
