Ostrom is hiring a Data Scientist - Power Trading (m/f/d)

About the Role

Join Ostrom as a Data Scientist – Power Trading (m/f/d) and play a key role in the green revolution of the electricity market. As part of our digital electricity provider mission, you'll be embedded within our Finance team to drive the development and optimization of our power sourcing, hedging, and trading processes.

What You'll Do

  • Build, maintain, and manage the lifecycle of forecasting models for energy consumption, energy prices, and related variables.
  • Develop scalable forecasting models for household electricity consumption, PV generation, and EV charging flexibility across a large portfolio.
  • Create models to support risk management and algorithmic trading decisions.
  • Support the procurement and integration of feature data, such as weather forecasts.
  • Take full ownership of models from development and deployment on AWS to monitoring and regular retraining.
  • Contribute to the development of our hedging and algorithmic trading platform.

What We're Looking For

  • A Master’s degree in a highly quantitative discipline.
  • At least 2+ years of industry experience in forecasting.
  • A strong foundation in applied mathematics, including statistics, stochastic processes, linear algebra, and optimization.
  • Proficiency in machine learning, forecasting, and time series analysis.
  • Solid understanding of MLOps and data engineering, with experience deploying ML models to production.
  • Strong software engineering skills and the ability to write production-level Python code with automated testing.
  • A basic understanding of trading and risk management, or a willingness to acquire it.
  • A hands-on, self-driven, and solution-oriented mentality for complex problems.
  • Excellent English communication skills (B2–C1).
  • A collaborative mindset, thriving in a young, dynamic team environment.

Nice to Have

  • A PhD or equivalent experience solving complex, novel problems independently.
  • Experience working with asynchronously generated sensor data.
  • German communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the German energy market.
  • Previous experience in start-up environments.
