TELUS Agriculture & Consumer Goods is hiring a Data Scientist to join the AI Innovation Hub within Customer Solutions Delivery (CSD). You will revolutionize field operations by designing data-driven AI solutions that optimize operational expenses, customer experience, sales, billing, and other key metrics. You'll work closely with stakeholders and engineers to identify and build high-impact AI applications, including retrieval-augmented generation systems and LLM-powered ETL pipelines.
What You'll Do
- Leverage traditional ML, NLP, and large language models to analyze unstructured text data like notes and transcripts. Develop models for classification, sentiment analysis, entity extraction, and error detection.
- Design and develop large language model applications and APIs to assist technicians, applying best practices in prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic AI systems.
- Build scalable AI-optimized APIs, applications, and automated processes, making deliberate trade-offs balancing network latency, cost, performance, and reliability.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines, manage infrastructure with Infrastructure-as-Code, containerize services, and deploy on Kubernetes. Establish monitoring, logging, and rollback strategies.
- Partner with stakeholders in engineering, operations, and business to translate real-world challenges into AI solutions. Document decisions and mentor team members.
What We're Looking For
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline, or PhD in a relevant field.
- 3+ years of experience applying machine learning and AI in production environments, delivering measurable business impact.
- Strong knowledge of traditional machine learning and natural language processing with experience designing robust evaluation frameworks.
- Hands-on experience using large language models, including prompt engineering, structured outputs, and building retrieval-augmented generation systems.
- Experience designing and implementing agentic AI systems, including multi-step reasoning workflows, tool orchestration, and production safeguards.
- Experience building AI-optimized applications and APIs, with an understanding of network latency, scalability, cost optimization, and reliability trade-offs.
- Proficiency in Python and modern machine learning frameworks, and experience developing and using REST APIs.
- Experience building data pipelines, preprocessing structured and unstructured data, and strong SQL skills working with large-scale datasets.
- Experience deploying models using Docker and Kubernetes, with knowledge of CI/CD, cloud platforms, and production monitoring.
- Strong ability to translate complex operational problems into scalable AI systems and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
