The City of New York's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Office of Data Analytics (ODA) within the Office of Technology and Innovation. You will be an integral part of the Analytics team, completing data analytics projects that inform agency and interagency policies, programs, and operational practices. Your work will balance strategic thinking with hands-on analysis to deliver timely insights on complex questions.
What You'll Do
- Serve as lead or supporting analyst on data analytics projects, collaborating with project managers, policy analysts, ODA leadership, and legal counsel.
- Provide project management, research, and knowledge capture support, including developing quality communications and deliverables.
- Lead facilitated conversations with City agency clients as part of the project process.
- Lead or support the decision-making process for scoping and designing analyses under the guidance of project leads or ODA leadership.
- Act as a lead project manager on analytics projects, drafting and adjusting project timelines with minimal coaching.
- Contribute to developing best practices for municipal responsible and open analytics work, including publishing code and projects publicly in partnership with City agencies.
- Support ODA as an analytics center of excellence, aiding initiatives like the Analytics Exchange (AnEx), data science workforce development, and best practice exchanges.
- Coordinate response efforts and workstreams during Citywide emergencies.
- Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication, or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the position, plus a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology, and/or domain.
- An associate degree from an accredited college in the fields listed above, and six years of satisfactory full-time relevant experience and specialization.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college (any field), and eight years of satisfactory full-time relevant experience and specialization.
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above requirements.
