As a Data & ML Architect, you will define the technical direction for enterprise data and artificial intelligence systems, translating complex business needs into robust, future-ready architectures. Working closely with clients and stakeholders, you'll design end-to-end data platforms that integrate batch, streaming, and cloud-based sources, ensuring alignment with security, compliance, and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish architectural vision for data and AI initiatives across projects and client engagements
- Design scalable data platforms and machine learning systems using cloud technologies from Azure, AWS, and GCP
- Develop and enforce architecture standards, governance models, and data quality frameworks
- Lead the integration of diverse data sources using modern ingestion patterns and cloud-native services
- Architect advanced AI solutions including NLP, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and Agentic AI systems
- Implement MLOps pipelines using tools like Kubeflow, Kubernetes, and Terraform for reliable model deployment
- Guide adoption of analytics and visualization platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, and PowerApps
- Conduct technical reviews and promote best practices in data modeling, including medallion architecture patterns
- Support ethical AI implementation, ensuring responsible and transparent use of intelligent systems
- Collaborate with engineering teams to build CI/CD workflows and infrastructure-as-code pipelines
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovations to enhance data product capabilities
- Advise on data governance, security, and compliance across hybrid and cloud environments
Qualifications
You bring at least 8 years of experience in data architecture roles with a focus on client-facing delivery. You're comfortable working in both Agile and traditional project environments and have a proven ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. A willingness to undergo UK Security Clearance, including BPSS, is required, with a minimum of five years of UK residency history.
Preferred candidates will hold industry-recognized certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Data Engineer, or GCP Data Engineer. Experience mentoring technical teams and fostering a culture of innovation is essential.
Technology Environment
You'll work across a broad stack including Python, SQL, Spark, and Scala, with platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, and cloud data services including Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, and GCP Dataflow. Infrastructure automation leverages Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes, while CI/CD pipelines are managed through Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position based in Newcastle Upon Tyne at Cobalt Business Park, requiring a minimum of three days per week in office. Some flexibility and travel may be needed for client or partner engagements.
