Velera is hiring a Data Engineer III to design, develop, test, maintain, and support secure, scalable, and robust data solutions. In this remote role, you will collaborate on the development of data solutions, working independently with minimal supervision.

What You'll Do

Develop basic to complex code and designs to maintain new and existing technology systems following company standards.
Develop and deliver technical documentation.
Undergo peer code and design reviews to ensure stable, high-quality, production-ready code.
Build and maintain Databricks and Python data solutions that meet or exceed industry regulatory requirements.
Foster and maintain high collaboration with team members, other technical colleagues, and business partners.
Ensure compliance with established SDLC frameworks, including requirements gathering, analysis, design, development, testing, release management, and deployment.
Ensure compliance with all audit and security requirements of the company.
Participate in and follow established Agile standards to create a collaborative and efficient development environment.
Lead a team in meeting project commitments, such as project goals, objectives, and corresponding delivery dates.
Provide engineering leadership and mentorship to junior-level engineers.
Foster innovation to improve on existing challenges and to realize new opportunities.
Effectively collaborate with Architects to develop and review intended solutions.
Travel as needed to perform position responsibilities.
Be on-call as needed.

What We're Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, a related technology field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Seven years of professional work experience in data development.
Two years of experience performing as a subject matter expert with Databricks and Python.
Proficiency in computer engineering fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
Ability to modify existing code and write complex scripts according to standards and best practices.
Comfortable with cloud environments and concepts—Azure preferred.
Advanced understanding of data engineering concepts with knowledge in two or more modern programming languages and proficiency with SQL.
Comfortable with big data technologies and scalable environments.
Advanced technical skills and knowledge in: data warehousing, databases, ETL/ELT, business intelligence, and data governance.
Experience leading and authoring technical specifications and detailed designs.
Ability to review code for complex maintainability, coding standards, and security issues.
