As the first Data Engineer, you’ll shape the foundation of data infrastructure across multiple product lines. You'll take full ownership of the Customer Data Platform, including event tracking, data routing, and taxonomy design, ensuring consistency and clarity for all downstream uses.
What You'll Do
- Manage and evolve the CDP stack, primarily Segment, from source integration to destination delivery, including advanced features like Unify and Protocols
- Ensure clean, consistent data flows into analytics tools such as Mixpanel by defining schemas, validating inputs, and maintaining documentation
- Design and deploy robust, scalable pipelines that replace error-prone, manual workflows with automated, auditable solutions
- Develop and maintain analytics-ready models in dbt, supporting reporting, activation, and business intelligence needs
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and marketing teams to translate business questions into technical requirements
- Implement monitoring, testing, and governance practices to uphold data integrity across systems
Requirements
- Proven experience building and maintaining end-to-end data pipelines, especially for product and behavioral analytics
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience modeling data for production environments
- Ability to navigate complex, evolving data ecosystems with incomplete or inconsistent source data
- Experience writing technical specifications and managing work independently while aligning with cross-functional partners
- Excellent written communication skills, particularly in asynchronous, remote-first settings
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Segment or similar customer data platforms
- Familiarity with analytics workflows across SaaS, e-commerce, and mobile applications
Technical Stack
Core tools include Segment, Mixpanel, BigQuery, dbt, Customer.io, Salesforce, Shopify, Stripe, and Jira. You’ll work directly with these systems to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
