About the Role

BDO USA, P.C. is looking for a Core Tax Intern to join our team. In this role, you will apply your educational background and organizational skills to serve our clients by preparing tax returns and extensions under supervision. This internship offers a hands-on perspective on our firm's practices and people.

What You'll Do

  • Serve the firm's client base by preparing returns and extensions under supervision.
  • Ensure client compliance with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
  • Complete tasks and organize files to minimize reviewer rework and ensure data collection meets filing requirements.
  • Take initiative on impending due dates and engagement letters.
  • Work with tax software applications to complete simple tax returns for review.
  • Prepare quarterly estimates and file extensions.
  • Assist with responses to notices from the Internal Revenue Service and with projecting year-end filings.
  • Correctly apply Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48 (ASC 740).
  • Assist with components of income tax provisions.
  • Help develop and implement efficient methods to maximize client benefits and decrease current and future taxes.
  • Operate online research tools to gather pertinent tax information and monitor tax law developments at least bi-weekly.
  • Develop and communicate viewpoints regarding how developments might affect clients.
  • Perform other duties as required.

What We're Looking For

  • Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or other relevant field.
  • Actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions as directed and work effectively in a team setting.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Seeks advice of appropriate superiors regarding compliance issues.
  • Ability to prepare simple tax returns.

Nice to Have

  • Pursuing a masters degree in Accounting or other relevant field.
  • Leadership experience.

Team & Environment

You will work under the supervision of more experienced Core Tax Services professionals and as part of a client service team.

  • Massachusetts: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr
  • Minnesota: $32.00/hr - $36.00/hr
  • New Jersey: $38.00/hr - $42.00/hr
  • NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr
  • Ohio: $33.00/hr - $37.00/hr
  • Washington: $37.00/hr - $38.00/hr
