Unknown Company is hiring a Computational Biologist / Data Scientist

About the Role

Merck & Co., Inc. (also known as Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC) in Rahway, NJ, is hiring a Computational Biologist/Data Scientist to deliver protein data science solutions with impact across R&D, manufacturing, and diagnostics. You will combine structural biology, bioinformatics, immunology, and cloud engineering to solve real-world problems.

What You'll Do

  • Execute data pipelines to deliver engineered proteins for experimental validation.
  • Identify, evaluate, and benchmark available protein engineering tools from published literature.
  • Implement and develop documented and reusable cloud data pipelines.
  • Participate in choosing the right tools and right infrastructure for data science projects.
  • Access, clean, and prepare data, ensuring it can be reused as needed.
  • Provide precise and timely communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Communicate intensively with other platforms/competencies to comprehend new trends and methodologies.
  • Understand the business context of the decisions to be supported.
  • Build and maintain knowledge on data sources, data quality and metadata.

What We're Looking For

  • MSc Degree in Computer Science, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience with Python/R, Databricks/HPC, APIs, and readiness to learn new software engineering skills.
  • Hands-on experience with computational biology tools and other life science topics.
  • Understanding and knowledge of biological databases such as InterPro, UniProt, etc.
  • Passion for science and good quality code.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to present to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and other collaboration tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a globally dispersed team.
  • Experience with design of innovative experiments, specifically to idea generation, idea incubation, and/or experimentation, identifying tangible and measurable criteria.
