YMCA of Southwest Florida is hiring a Community Nutrition Program Director

About the Role

The YMCA of Southwest Florida is hiring a Community Nutrition Program Director to manage our regional efforts to reduce food insecurity and expand nutrition education. You will help oversee grant-funded initiatives, including community outreach, nutrition workshops, Mobile Markets, and pantry operations, across rural and underserved communities.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate food security milestone activities and assist with USDA food security evaluations.
  • Expand Mobile Market operations into food deserts and rural counties.
  • Manage current operational food pantries and build new on-site pantries.
  • Coordinate annual cycles of community outreach events and nutrition workshops.
  • Assist with procurement of kitchen supplies and equipment for cooking classes.
  • Support acquisition and use of refrigerator trucks for Mobile Market expansion.
  • Coordinate program expansion into additional counties and launch tasks.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, supervising, and training nutrition staff.
  • Help provide training for YMCA personnel to obtain SNAP/WIC navigation certification.
  • Foster an internal culture prioritizing equitable food access, nutrition literacy, and compassionate service.
  • Facilitate community outreach events annually, increasing event count during the grant period.
  • Support implementation of annual nutrition workshops beginning 2026, scaling participation yearly.
  • Ensure workshop curriculum aligns with measurable knowledge gain, increased produce consumption, and health outcome indicators.
  • Act as YMCA representative regarding agreements and maintain strong partnerships with food banks.
  • Identify rural locations and community hubs for Mobile Market deployment.
  • Advocate within communities for sustaining partnerships for program longevity.
  • Coordinate bulk meal distribution for families in Hendry, Glades, and DeSoto counties.
  • Support the goal of increasing annual meals and produce volume via pantries and Mobile Markets.
  • Maintain accurate data on meals served, pounds of food distributed, and participation counts.
  • Coordinate menu planning with the support of a registered Dietician.
  • Lead development and maintenance of all printed and online educational materials.
  • Oversee finalization of educational content for the YMCA website, including nutrition information and local resources.
  • Monitor achievement of grant-defined outcomes like increased nutrition knowledge and improved health indicators.
  • Track unduplicated participation metrics for households, individuals, workshops, and outreach engagement.
  • Work with the team to create a comprehensive YMCA nutrition webpage.

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5 years of experience in food access programs, community nutrition, food bank operations, SNAP/WIC guidance, or related work.
  • Demonstrated experience in partnership development, curriculum creation, health and nutrition best practices, and community-based service models.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and project management experience, with proven ability to meet milestones and measurable outcomes.
  • Passion for equitable food access, healthy living, and community well-being aligned with the YMCA mission.
  • Ability to meet the association’s background screening requirements.
  • Adherence to a drug, alcohol, and smoke-free workplace policy.
  • Willingness to complete required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
  • This role requires travel across YMCA service counties, outreach sites, mobile market destinations, and community event locations.
  • Schedule flexibility, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods and communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
  • Ability to sit, reach, and move around the work environment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Community Health, Social Services, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with USDA food security metrics, survey administration, and data-driven performance measurement.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications.
