About the Role

Bossier Parish Community College is hiring a Coastal Resources Scientist to join the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office (LOSCO) in Baton Rouge. In this role, you will assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the State’s Regional Restoration Planning Program, providing direct support to the Oil Spill Coordinator, Deputy Coordinator, and other managers.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in coordinating NRDA restoration activities between State and Federal Trustees, responsible parties, parishes, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct studies and analytical assessments for NRDA projects, including reviewing scientific literature, compiling data, collecting field samples, analyzing data, and preparing reports and maps.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and articles detailing project developments, technology, environmental issues, management activities, and policy matters.
  • Enter and perform quality assurance evaluations of data into the LOSCO database.
  • Develop and implement standards and criteria for NRDA project and program evaluation.
  • Assist in providing a point of contact for government, industry, and the public on issues related to oil spill planning, response, damage assessment, and restoration.
  • Assist in developing and updating a statewide oil spill prevention and response plan and participate in federal Area Contingency Plan development.
  • Manage or assist in managing projects, contracts, interagency agreements, cooperative agreements, memorandums of agreement (MOA), and memorandums of understanding (MOU) as directed.
  • Conduct response activities according to designated functions in the LOSCO Response Procedures.
  • Analyze technical innovations with an emphasis on restoration, oil spills, and natural resource protection.
  • Participate in shoreline cleanup assessment teams.

What We're Looking For

  • A bachelor's degree in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering, or a related field.

Team & Environment

You will report to the Oil Spill Coordinator, Deputy Coordinator, Coastal Resource Scientist Manager, and Environmental Scientist Manager.

Work Mode

This is an onsite position located in Baton Rouge, LA.
