High Tech Genesis is looking for a Cloud FinOps Analyst to lead the financial management of our cloud environments. You will own the FinOps data layer, establish showback/chargeback, and drive forecasting, cost optimization, and governance. You will be part of a design services company that is amongst the leaders in technology and innovation.
What You'll Do
- Own the FinOps data layer: Build and govern CUR/usage pipelines leveraging existing cost platforms, or home built tooling.
- Define schemas, SLAs, and FOCUS-aligned datasets; ensure 99%+ allocation coverage via tags/accounts.
- Establish showback/chargeback: Refine allocation models, publish monthly bills, resolve disputes, and drive accountability with budget vs. actuals and unit-economics KPIs.
- Forecast & plan: Deliver driver-based forecasts (product/BU), scenario models for roadmap changes, and monthly variance analyses for FP&A and engineering leaders.
- Optimize at scale: Create automation and playbooks (rightsizing, scheduling, storage tiering, egress patterns), partner with platform engineering team to refine opportunities, land changes, and track verified savings.
- Commitment strategy: Lead SP/RI/CUD planning and renewals, target coverage and utilization %, and negotiate commercial terms with vendors/procurement.
- Governance & guardrails: Define tagging standards, budgets/alerts, and policy-as-code controls; measure adherence and lead corrective actions.
- Anomaly response: Operate spend monitoring, triage spikes, run incident reviews, and prevent recurrences.
- Executive reporting: Build concise, role-based dashboards (engineer → exec) and a quarterly narrative of savings, risks, and investments.
- Program leadership: Set OKRs, run backlogging and ceremonies, mentor team members, and grow a community of practice aligned to the FinOps Framework (Inform/Optimize/Operate).
What We're Looking For
- 3 to 5+ years of experience in Cloud FinOps, Cloud Cost Optimization, or Cloud Financial Management.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS Cost & Usage Reports (CUR), Cost Explorer, and data pipeline integration for cost tracking and reporting.
- Proficient in building and maintaining cost allocation models, implementing tagging strategies, and achieving high allocation coverage across multi-account structures.
- Proven experience in showback/chargeback frameworks, budget forecasting, and unit economics reporting for business units or product lines.
- Skilled in driver-based forecasting, variance analysis, and collaboration with FP&A and Engineering leadership teams.
- Experience developing automation and optimization playbooks (e.g., rightsizing, idle resource scheduling, storage tiering, commitment utilization).
- Strong knowledge of commitment management (Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, Committed Use Discounts) and vendor negotiation best practices.
- Competent in SQL, Python, or similar scripting languages for data transformation and cost analytics automation.
- Solid understanding of policy-as-code, budget alerting, and governance frameworks for cloud cost control.
- Demonstrated ability to lead FinOps governance programs, establish and manage cross-functional collaboration between Finance, Procurement, and Engineering.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical data into executive-ready insights and reports.
