Malvern Panalytical is hiring a Cloud Architect and Governance Lead

About the Role

Define and evolve the enterprise cloud architecture and governance framework to support a secure, scalable, and cost-efficient cloud environment. This role ensures alignment across technology, compliance, and business objectives while maintaining oversight of global cloud platforms.

What You'll Do

  • Own and maintain the target-state cloud architecture, including landing zones, shared services, subscription models, and environment standards
  • Set and enforce cloud architecture policies, reference designs, and non-functional requirements
  • Serve as the final authority on architectural decisions, resolving conflicts and approving exceptions
  • Lead or participate in architecture review boards and cloud governance forums
  • Design and implement automated governance controls using policy-as-code and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and compliance teams to meet regulatory standards such as ISO 27001, NIS2, and related frameworks
  • Ensure cloud risk is proactively managed with security and controls integrated by design
  • Enforce tagging strategies, budgeting practices, and cost visibility across cloud usage
  • Integrate financial discipline into technical decisions through collaboration with finance teams
  • Clarify roles, responsibilities, and decision-making authority across architecture, security, operations, and delivery functions
  • Support rapid, compliant cloud adoption through guidance and enablement
  • Keep architecture documentation current and accessible
  • Adapt governance practices in response to evolving business and technology needs
  • Remain accountable for the effectiveness of cloud governance across all global operations

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years in hands-on cloud roles such as Cloud Engineer, Cloud Architect, or Enterprise Architect
  • Proven experience establishing cloud governance in regulated, enterprise environments
  • Strong knowledge of cloud security, risk management, and compliance requirements
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Experience implementing governance through policy-as-code, infrastructure-as-code, and automated enforcement
  • Familiarity with FinOps principles and financial governance in cloud environments
  • Track record supporting internal and external audits related to cloud infrastructure
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders across security, engineering, operations, and finance
  • Excellent communication skills and experience engaging senior leadership
  • Proven ability to prioritize, deliver independently, and mentor others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services and other cloud platforms
  • Background in hybrid or multi-cloud environments
  • Recent experience leading cloud governance or adoption transformation initiatives
  • Hold certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) or AWS Solutions Architect – Professional (SAP-C02)
