The Indiana Department of Correction / Madison State Hospital is hiring an Intermittent Clerical Assistant to support the Program Director in achieving agency performance metrics and process improvements. This role focuses on efficiency gains and conflict resolution as they relate to Driver Education, the Driver Safety Program, and associated Indiana Administrative Code.
What You'll Do
- Support daily operations by performing general office tasks.
- Communicate with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions and disseminate information.
- Review files, records, and other documents to obtain information to respond to requests.
- Type forms, correspondence, memos, and other materials.
- Maintain filing systems for efficient recordkeeping and easy retrieval.
- Check emails, send faxes, make copies, and update computer databases.
- Answer telephones and give information to callers, take messages, or transfer calls.
- Train other staff members to perform work activities, such as using computer applications.
- Complete tasks or projects assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of clerical experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
- Working knowledge of general office functions and clerical procedures.
- Active listening skills.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Proficient computer skills required, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, case management and data base tools.
- Ability to work with sensitive documents and information, and be privy to sensitive agency information without divulging information to internal or external parties.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to provide effective and professional customer service to internal and external parties.

This role reports to the Program Director and may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
