Burkland Associates is seeking a CFO Consultant, Cybersecurity to become a trusted finance thought leader and strategic partner for our startup clients. You will manage the entire Finance function, bridging legacy approaches with new ecosystems while building robust processes and systems.
What You'll Do
- Partner strategically with cybersecurity clients on forward-looking finance.
- Present at investor meetings and build high-level financial models.
- Bridge the gap between legacy financial thinking and new ecosystems, functions, and capital flows.
- Support startup clients needing high-level finance help but not a full-time CFO.
- Manage the entire Finance function for clients, including managing a team.
- Build out robust processes and systems.
- Lead client fundraising efforts: evaluate round size, model cap table scenarios, assist with pitch decks, facilitate investor introductions, and participate in pitches.
- Design the Finance function from the ground up, including team structures, systems, and processes.
- Drive comprehensive reporting of financial performance, metrics, and KPIs.
- Seamlessly juggle hard-hitting CFO deliverables while building strong client relationships.
What We're Looking For
- Experience with and a passion for working with rapidly growing startups and their founders.
- Specific experience with cybersecurity companies and founders.
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- Over 5 years of experience in a high-level Finance role.
- Understanding of cybersecurity’s current financial, regulatory & tax landscape, and familiarity with jurisdictional complexities.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity’s inherent rate of change, liquidity management, and sector nuances.
- Experience working with a variety of cybersecurity business models (SAAS Subscription / AI / Usage Based).
- Strong finance-based modeling & analytical skills.
- Impeccable written and verbal communication.
- Ability to context shift, communicate, prioritize, and evaluate needs across a variety of clients.
- Comfortable managing a team.
- Understanding and embracing the agile and scrappy nature of startups.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets, Carta, QBO.
- Comfortable using Zoom and other video conferencing tools for client meetings.
