Northwestern Memorial Healthcare seeks an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team. This part-time role is responsible for inpatient management and care coordination on the cardiac surgery step-down unit, focusing on a patient-first approach within a leading healthcare organization.
What You'll Do
- Conduct comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status through health histories and physical examinations.
- Provide direct clinical care and prescribe medications, therapies, and diagnostic tests according to clinical privileges.
- Evaluate patients to determine their need for further healthcare.
- Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families, documenting all care and education provided.
- Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise.
- Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making.
- Maintain certifications and continuing education as required for licensure and privileging.
- Serve as a patient advocate and participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees as appropriate.
- Provide formal education to both internal and external groups pertinent to your specialty.
- Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives for your patient population.
What We're Looking For
- A Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR a Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
- Acute care certification required for APRNs.
- Current license as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Illinois with national certification OR Current license as a Physician Assistant in Illinois.
- Eligibility to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number.
- Ability to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as an APP in cardiac surgery within ICU and/or step-down units.

Work Mode
This is an onsite position located at 251 E. Huron, Chicago, IL, working 20 hours per week.
