The Camp Assistant at Camp Mather, operated by the City and County of San Francisco, plays a vital role in supporting camp operations to ensure guests enjoy a welcoming and enjoyable vacation experience. This position involves food service, facility maintenance, and active participation in camp life under supervision.
What You'll Do
- Works steam tables
- Serves food
- Buses tables
- Washes and stacks dishes
- Cleans flatware
- Cleans cabins
- Cleans dining hall kitchen
- Cleans other camp facilities
- Sweeps and mops floors
- Washes windows
- Scrubs washrooms
- Cleans the campgrounds
- Participates in the staff talent show
- Participates in staff versus guest athletic activities
- Unloads and loads trucks
- Moves furniture and supplies
- Helps the Chef, Assistant Cooks, and Food Service Workers as needed
What We're Looking For
- Must be available to work six days per week
- Must be able to perform duties involving high level of physical effort
- Must possess strong customer-service skills
- Must be available to work shifts including weekends, early mornings, and evenings
- Must be available for overtime when required
- Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors
- Must be able to work in varying weather conditions including sun, snow, rain, high/low temperatures
- Must be able to work in areas with potential exposure to wildfire smoke and wild animals
- Must be able to work in areas with regular presence of bugs and insects
- Must comply with policies in the 2026 Camp Mather Pre-Hire Policies
- Must secure own transportation to and from Camp Mather
- Must be available to work during assigned camp phase(s)
Nice to Have
- Applicants available to work the main high season AND either early crew or wrap-up crew (in part or in full) receive hiring priority

Work Mode
Onsite at Camp Mather, High Sierra near Yosemite National Park, about 3 hours east of San Francisco. The schedule is fixed with a six-day workweek; shifts include weekends, early mornings, and evenings. Limited flexibility due to remote location and operational needs.
