The Principal Brand Experience Designer will set the standard for design excellence by transforming brand strategy into unified, high-quality digital experiences across all platforms and touchpoints. This role drives systems thinking and innovation within the BEX team and influences design strategy across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end brand experience design, turning brand strategy into consistent, high-quality digital experiences across platforms and surfaces.
- Develop and refine systems for visual language, interactions, and design standards to ensure brand consistency, scalability, and adaptability.
- Establish and share best practices for framing problems and synthesizing customer and business insights to clarify ambiguous challenges.
- Create and advance a customer experience vision and strategy with measurable success metrics at the organizational level.
- Lead complex design projects from discovery to delivery, including problem definition, insight synthesis, concept exploration, iteration, and implementation oversight.
- Define and promote high standards in visual and interaction design, advocating for simple, elegant experiences and holding teams accountable to quality.
- Foster a culture of innovation by encouraging creative risk-taking, collaboration, and constructive design critique.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, research, content, and marketing teams to align brand, usability, and business objectives, influencing strategy and roadmaps.
- Work with leadership to determine which processes should be standardized and which should remain distinct based on strategic needs.
- Advise on how solutions affect structure, process, and technology, ensuring alignment between brand, experience, and underlying systems.
- Guide the creation of foundational design system layers, including enterprise-grade components, utilities, tools, and functional prototypes.
- Contribute to major enhancements in design systems at the platform level, ensuring coherence across BEX and broader organizational surfaces.
- Develop compelling communication materials that connect strategic vision with actionable plans for diverse audiences.
- Refine and adapt design processes to support high-quality work and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- Integrate qualitative and quantitative data from research, experimentation, and analytics to inform design decisions and assess impact.
- Ensure teams prioritize customer needs, keeping user outcomes central to all decision-making.
- Mentor and develop designers by offering clear feedback, direction, and frameworks that elevate design craft and team outcomes.
- Apply systems thinking and data-driven methods to design, including experimentation and iteration, with familiarity in AI/ML systems and their application to real-world products.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in product, UX, or brand experience design with demonstrated thought leadership and domain expertise.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in design, human-computer interaction, user experience, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Relevant academic credentials that enhance team knowledge are valued but not mandatory.
- Extensive experience as a product or UX designer with a focus on brand within digital products, including leading complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Proven experience designing and launching end-to-end experiences in cross-functional teams, working closely with engineering and product management from concept to release.
- Demonstrated expertise in interaction design, visual design, and systems thinking, including building and maintaining scalable design systems, pattern libraries, and brand guidelines.
- Broad and deep functional skills: expert in two core areas, strong in two others, and capable in one to two additional areas across interaction, visual, systems, or strategy disciplines.
- Proficient in modern design and prototyping tools and workflows, able to work within existing systems while evolving them to meet product and brand needs.
Nice to Have
- Experience shaping and advancing brand experience strategy for large-scale consumer or platform products, translating abstract brand concepts into tangible product behaviors and visuals.
- Background in creating or leading multi-surface design systems across web, app, email, marketing, and in-product experiences to ensure cross-channel consistency and flexibility.
- Proven ability to influence senior leaders, align teams, and make data-informed design decisions using experimentation, qualitative insights, and quantitative metrics.
- Experience designing or integrating AI/ML-powered features such as personalization, recommendations, or content generation, with understanding of safe deployment and operation.
- Track record mentoring designers at various levels and shaping design processes, critique culture, and quality standards within a product organization.

Compensation
Starting pay varies based on location, budget, knowledge, skills, and experience. The total cash range in Austin is $224,000 to $313,500 annually, with potential to reach $358,500 based on sustained performance.
