The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is seeking a Before and After School Program Assistant Teacher to create a reliable, safe, and engaging environment for children preparing for or unwinding from their school day. You will assist in planning, developing, and implementing classroom activities at off-site school locations throughout the Thornapple Kellogg Schools district.
What You'll Do
- Assist the Site Coordinator in developing and leading daily lesson plans.
- Prepare materials for daily program activities.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, arrival, and departure times.
- Provide weekly lesson plans and daily individual activity updates to parents.
- Maintain active supervision and ensure the safety of all children.
- Assist the Site Supervisor with parent-teacher conferences as needed.
- Manage the quality and quantity of classroom supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Perform other necessary functions for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA.
What We're Looking For
- Six months to one year of youth development experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to interact effectively with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
- A genuine desire and ability to work with school-age children.
- Blood Borne Pathogen training.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification, required within the first 60 days.
- First Aid Certification, required within the first 60 days.
- AED-Oxygen Certification, required within the first 60 days.
- State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT).
- Weekday availability, with 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM being required.
