About the Role

The University of Wyoming invites applications for tenure-track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in applied AI/ML and advanced AI applications. As part of a strategic university-wide AI Faculty Cluster Hire, you will join a collaborative initiative to build impactful interdisciplinary research programs and create compelling learning experiences for students.

What You'll Do

  • Teach computing courses within your discipline and contribute to general computing education, while mentoring undergraduate and graduate researchers.
  • Develop and sustain (assistant rank) or sustain and elevate (associate rank) an active, interdisciplinary research program in STEM applications, AI and Scientific Computing, or closely related areas.
  • Produce impactful research outputs such as peer-reviewed publications, software, or data sets.
  • Advance the statewide impact of UW through research, economic development, social entrepreneurship, outreach, and/or engagement.

What We're Looking For

  • For Assistant Professor: Earned doctorate in an appropriate field related to the participating academic units by the appointment date.
  • For Assistant Professor: Demonstrated research activity in STEM applications of AI/ML, AI and scientific computing or closely related areas.
  • For Assistant Professor: Record of research productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, datasets, software, or comparable outputs).
  • For Assistant Professor: Strong potential for securing external research funding.
  • For Assistant Professor: Demonstrated commitment to, or experience in, teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • For Associate Professor: Earned doctorate in an appropriate field related to the participating academic units.
  • For Associate Professor: Demonstrated research activity and leadership in STEM applications of AI/ML, AI and scientific computing or closely related areas.
  • For Associate Professor: Nationally recognized record of research productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, datasets, software, or comparable outputs).
  • For Associate Professor: Evidence of securing external research funding.
  • For Associate Professor: Demonstrated commitment to, or experience in, teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated experience and/or strong interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary research, with the ability to work and communicate effectively across academic units.
  • Research interests aligned with areas offering strong potential for sustained external funding.
  • Experience engaging external partners (e.g., industry, national laboratories, K-12, community colleges, government, nonprofits, innovation ecosystems) in co-designed research, education, or workforce-development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or strong interest in collaborative, team-based curriculum development, including contributing to interdisciplinary courses, applied learning experiences, or innovative instructional models in computing and AI.

Team & Environment

These positions are part of a multi-department AI Faculty Cluster Hire. Two positions are jointly appointed in the School of Computing and a partnering academic unit. One position is appointed in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) with the possibility of a joint appointment in another partnering unit.
