About the Role

The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is looking for an Assistant Teacher to join our Before and After School Program. You will help create a reliable, safe, and fun environment for children to prepare for their school day and unwind from it. In this role, you will assist in planning, developing, and implementing classroom activities.

What You'll Do

  • Assist the Site Coordinator in developing and leading daily lesson plans.
  • Prepare materials for daily activities.
  • Maintain records of attendance, arrival, and departure times.
  • Provide weekly lesson plans to parents.
  • Provide each participant’s parent with daily information on individual activities.
  • Maintain supervision of children.
  • Assist the Site Supervisor with parent-teacher conferences as needed.
  • Maintain the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom.
  • Perform any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA.

What We're Looking For

  • Six months to one year of youth development related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
  • Ability and desire to work with school-age children.
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT).

Work Mode

This is an onsite role with schedules requiring Tuesday/Thursday availability, 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM and/or 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Positions are located at Northview and Comstock Park schools.
