About the Role

The Indiana Department of Correction is hiring an Assistant Superintendent to lead the operational and financial direction of Madison State Hospital. This critical role ensures hospital activities meet compliance standards while maximizing efficiency across several key departments.

What You'll Do

  • Direct and coordinate the hospital’s financial and budget activities to fund operations and maximize efficiencies.
  • Develop cost analysis throughout the facility to improve cost effectiveness.
  • Provide consultation and recommendations to senior leadership on the financial impact of programs and policies.
  • Direct the purchasing department in securing materials in accordance with state directives.
  • Oversee the management, goal-setting, and operations of the Business Administration, Maintenance, Information Management, Environmental Services/Material Management, and Nutrition Services departments.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees, providing opportunities for professional development.
  • Set performance expectations, measure progress, provide feedback, and evaluate staff.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive knowledge of State Hospital operations, management, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Thorough knowledge of budgeting and finances related to a psychiatric hospital within Indiana.
  • Working knowledge of public administration principles and the ability to supervise, plan, organize, and coordinate program and staff activities.
  • Working knowledge of administrative and personnel techniques for supervising departments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to analyze program needs and effectiveness and formulate plans for change.
  • Ability to cope with unexpected and unforeseen difficulties.
  • A degree is not required.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice to Have

  • Candidates with an MBA are strongly preferred.

Team & Environment

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members, coordinating across multiple hospital departments.

  • Compensation traditionally starts at $93,002.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
