The University of Chicago is hiring an Assistant Director for the Office of College Community Standards (OCCS). This role reports to the Director of OCCS and Assistant Dean of Students and is central to managing student disciplinary case processes, supporting the College's academic review system, and collaborating with campus partners to support student development.
What You'll Do
- Meet with and support students navigating academic, personal, or disciplinary challenges.
- Assist with case management for student disciplinary matters, including preparation, scheduling, notification, and follow-up.
- Under supervision, receive misconduct reports, conduct preliminary information gathering, and resolve student disciplinary matters administratively.
- Support faculty seeking advice on reporting academic dishonesty.
- Under supervision, identify cases requiring referral to the College Area Disciplinary Committee hearing process.
- Manage the College’s academic review process with the OCCS team.
- Communicate with students about changes in academic standing, including probation and suspension.
- Document academic standing changes, notify campus partners, and coordinate follow-up for students placed on suspension.
- Facilitate outreach and support for students on suspension to ensure resource access and facilitate their return.
- Attend care team meetings as an integral member focused on addressing students of concern.
- Manage student requests relating to academic standing and disciplinary records, such as work approvals and Dean’s forms.
- Communicate with students and parents about College policies and processes.
- Provide OCCS-related training to Academic Advisers, Resident Heads, faculty, and other offices.
- Develop and implement programming relating to community standards.
- Design and produce material for the handbook and other academically-related publications.
- Solve problems in areas such as academic policy, student admissions, curriculum research, and budget development.
- Advise campus-wide and program committees on aspects of student life.
- Collaborate with academic divisions to educate students on safety issues.
- Interpret student disciplinary issues and prepare an annual university summary of disciplinary actions.
- Counsel students, parents, and staff in response to concerns, handling complex situations including student crises.
What We're Looking For
- College or university degree in a related field.
- Knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Advanced degree.
- Five years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in student case management, conduct, or a related field.
- Familiarity with University structure and functions of its various offices and departments.
- Proficiency in Mac and PC environments.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and online organizational tools.
- Familiarity with Adobe graphic design/web development environments.
- Proficiency with web and social media platforms.
- Ability to learn new software and database tools.
- Excellent computer skills and use of complex databases and other record-keeping systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including excellent editing/proofreading ability in English.
- Strong commitment to the advancement of young adults and the values and goals of a liberal arts education.
- Strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and manage concurrent tasks with interruptions.

Benefits & Compensation
- Salary: $60,000 - $75,000
