The University of Chicago is hiring an Assistant Director, Grants and Committee Management to serve as the primary steward for UChicago Global’s internal funding mechanisms, including the Provost’s Global Faculty Awards. You will design, implement, and oversee the entire award lifecycle while guiding faculty committees and supporting fundraising efforts.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the lead facilitator for the University’s five regional funding mechanisms and a partnership funding initiative.
- Oversee and improve the full lifecycle of each mechanism, from preparing guidelines and drafting calls for proposals to coordinating the review process.
- Administer the annual International Research Center for Fundamental Scientific Discovery (IRC Discovery) grant mechanism in coordination with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).
- In partnership with the Office of the Provost, coordinate the selection of faculty directors, chairs, and steering committee members.
- Develop and implement onboarding processes and engagement strategies for committees.
- Staff and facilitate all committee meetings, ensuring smooth operations and clear communication.
- Collect grant reporting and assess outcomes for the 70+ faculty grants awarded annually.
- Analyze data and translate findings into impact stories that highlight the value of funded projects.
- Collaborate with the Director of Global Communications and global center teams to amplify outcomes through external communications.
- Maintain a repository of metrics, narratives, and visual materials demonstrating the reach and impact of funding mechanisms.
- Support UChicago Global’s development efforts by drafting donor proposals and identifying relevant external funders.
- Build strong working knowledge of related services and resources across campus to ensure smooth referral and collaboration.
- Advise faculty and staff on key services, supports, and funding opportunities offered by UChicago Global.
- Develop and maintain resources and guidance for awarded faculty and act as a liaison to the Global Centers and Global Operations teams.
- Provide strategic guidance, technical support, and targeted resources to UChicago faculty and staff engaged in global work.
- Seek new avenues of funding and grant opportunities and ensure that notices of relevant opportunities are brought to faculty attention.
- Review all applications against University guidelines, draft progress reports, non-completing applications, amendments, and budgeting.
- Handle all data entry and preparation of grant reports and trend analysis.
- Manage straightforward post-award activities including account creations, regulatory and compliance monitoring, salary allocations, effort reporting, grant projections, cost allocations, cost center charges, equipment inventory, invoice preparation, grant closing, and account closing.
What We're Looking For
- College or university degree in a related field.
- Knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Nice to Have
- Graduate degree.
- Experience developing and maintaining systems and change management efforts engaging administrative colleagues.
- Experience working in a global context or with global partners.
- Grant management and client-facing work experience.
- Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
- Knowledge of higher education and the University of Chicago.
- Familiarity with Salesforce and InfoReady, or other grant management tools.

Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $72,000.00 - $93,240.00
- Health, retirement, and paid time off benefits.
