The Assistant Cook (2650) is an entry-level position within the Cook series at Camp Mather, operated by SF Recreation & Parks. This seasonal role supports kitchen operations during the summer months from April to September 2026 in a remote camp environment approximately 3 hours east of San Francisco, near Yosemite National Park.
What You'll Do
- Prepares, cooks and serves a wide variety of food stuffs for large quantity service according to preplanned menus, including special diet items.
- Assists or relieves cooks when directed.
- Directs and participates in the cleaning of the kitchen area and equipment.
- Works with various cleaning chemicals as part of the position requirements.
What We're Looking For
- Perform routine preparatory kitchen duties.
- Follow the policies as described in the Camp Mather 2026 Workplace Policies and Expectations.
- Work both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to sun and high temperatures.
- Regularly encounter bugs and insects.
- Work a schedule that may include 10–12 hour shifts with appropriate breaks or six-day workweeks (limited to 40 hours per week) during high season.
- Work weekends and evenings as required.
- Work mandatory Sunday and Monday shifts, with one day off scheduled during the remainder of the week.
- Secure own transportation to and from Camp Mather.
- Adapt to very limited cellular and Internet/Wi-Fi services on site.

Work Mode
Onsite at Camp Mather, High Sierra near Yosemite National Park, approximately 3 hours east of San Francisco. Alternate shifts of 10–12 hours or six-day workweeks during peak season, limited to 40 hours per week.
