Penn State is hiring an Application Solution Azure Architect to design high-level and low-level architecture for cloud-native and hybrid enterprise applications on Microsoft Azure. In this role, you will provide technical leadership in modernizing monolithic systems and set architecture standards and governance.
What You'll Do
- Design high-level and low-level architecture for cloud-native and hybrid enterprise applications.
- Develop scalable systems using Azure PaaS services, microservices, APIs, and serverless components.
- Define architecture standards, integration patterns, and technology roadmaps.
- Provide technical leadership in the modernization of monolithic systems to microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Review solution designs, code quality, and architectural compliance.
- Set non-functional requirements (NFRs) for security, scalability, performance, reliability, and observability.
- Conduct architecture reviews and produce solution design documentation.
- Partner with product owners, business analysts, development managers, and DevOps teams.
- Provide guidance to developers and junior architects.
- Assist in RFP responses, technical estimations, and client proposal presentations.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in application development and architecture.
- Strong understanding of Azure cloud-native patterns and enterprise integration patterns.
- Proficiency in .NET Core / Java / Node.js for backend and RESTful API design.
- Hands-on experience with microservices, containers, Docker, and Kubernetes (AKS).
- Experience with cloud CI/CD pipelines, IaC (ARM/Bicep/Terraform), and release automation.
- Strong understanding of security best practices, networking, and identity management in Azure.
- Excellent communication and client interaction abilities.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to mentor and influence cross-functional teams.
- Comfortable working in agile, fast-paced environments.

- Azure certifications such as AZ-305: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
