UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is hiring a Full-Time Anesthesia Technician to support the Anesthesia Department at UPMC Passavant's McCandless location. You will be responsible for maintaining supplies and equipment, assisting with procedures, and ensuring the efficient daily operation of the operating rooms.
What You'll Do
- Maintain anesthesia supplies and drugs by establishing inventory levels, requisitioning, and restocking.
- Transport anesthesia equipment and gas machines to and from the operating room and off-site locations.
- Assist anesthesia providers by retrieving, carrying, and distributing necessary medications.
- Effectively communicate with anesthesia and operating room staff to prioritize daily assignments.
- Disassemble, decontaminate, and sterilize anesthesia equipment and supplies.
- Report equipment problems to the Chief Anesthesia Technician.
- Retrieve and distribute specialty equipment for invasive lines, monitoring, difficult airway, and pediatric procedures.
- Stock carts and surgical suites with required supplies according to par lists.
- Operate the Blood Cell Saver.
- Participate in turning over rooms to minimize downtime between cases.
- Maintain equipment through preparation, testing, setup, troubleshooting, and routine cleaning.
- Support providers by setting up IVs, central venous lines, and arterial lines; assembling drugs and syringes; and opening sterile trays.
- Assist with the placement of invasive monitoring lines pre, intra, and post-operatively.
- Assist in delivering blood samples to the lab and retrieving blood products.
- Perform Point of Care (POC) diagnostic laboratory assays after completing required competency.
- Maintain an adequate supply of stock items and keep the work room clean and orderly.
- Assist with lines and specialty room set-ups.
- Assist with difficult airway management.
- Maintain complete and accurate records and reports.
What We're Looking For
- A High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of anesthesia, emergency/medical, or related experience.
- Or, graduation from an accredited Anesthesia Tech school or program.
Nice to Have
- ASATT Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) certification.
Team & Environment
You will support the Anesthesia Department and report directly to the Chief Anesthesia Technician.
