PayPal is hiring an Android Software Engineer

Design and build scalable Android solutions for Help Center and Contact Us experiences as part of the Customer Success Self-Service team. Focus on creating reusable, high-quality Android components used across multiple platforms. Own features from concept to production and collaborate with product, design, and architecture teams to deliver robust technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Android applications for customer support experiences.
  • Take full ownership of features through all stages including design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Create reusable Android frameworks and components to ensure long-term platform consistency and scalability.
  • Work closely with product, design, and architecture teams to turn requirements into effective technical implementations.
  • Apply modern Android architecture and engineering best practices to ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Explore AI-driven improvements to enhance customer engagement and operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and promote code quality within the engineering team.
  • Follow established SDLC processes with guidance from senior team members.
  • Adhere to internal coding standards and apply them in technical decision-making.
  • Collaborate with peers and leads to understand tasks and review implemented solutions.
  • Participate in code and design reviews to ensure consistency and quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional Android development experience with strong Kotlin skills and working knowledge of Java.
  • In-depth knowledge of Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, and XML-based UI development.
  • Extensive experience with Jetpack components, Coroutines, and Flows.
  • Solid understanding of Android architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVI, and Clean Architecture, along with dependency injection frameworks.
  • Proven ability to build modular and scalable Android applications.
  • Strong skills in debugging, performance tuning, and profiling Android apps.
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.

Compensation

Expected annual salary range: $116,500 - $173,250, depending on location and experience. Equity may be included. Additional compensation may include performance bonuses or other incentives.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid role based in San Jose, California, requiring 3 days per week in the office and 2 days flexible between office and home.

Team

Part of the Customer Success Self-Service team; works alongside product managers, architects, designers, and engineers. Reports to a manager and project lead.
