The Roman Catholic Bishop of San Diego / Notre Dame Academy is hiring a full-time 5th Grade Teacher for St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School. You will play a central role in developing Christ-centered, forward-thinking leaders by adhering to the school's mission, implementing the prescribed curriculum, and fulfilling all standard teaching duties.
What You'll Do
- Follow the Mission and Philosophy of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School and be a Christian witness.
- Participate fully in the Church’s liturgical seasons and school religious activities.
- Adhere to the educational philosophy, regulations, policies, and standards of the Diocese of San Diego and St. Peter the Apostle School.
- Deliver instruction using the prescribed curriculum and authorized textbooks, supplemented with other materials.
- Observe the full school calendar for meetings, in-service days, and be available to students and parents outside school hours.
- Fulfill the normal load of a full-time teacher, including classroom instruction and assessment.
- Conduct conferences with students and parents.
- Collaborate with grade-level teachers both horizontally and vertically.
- Utilize advanced technological skills and all classroom devices.
- Supervise student activities.
- Create lesson plans and attend school-sponsored events.
- Participate in professional development for spiritual, academic, and human growth.
- Undertake assigned extra duties and assignments outside of school hours.
- Complete all required administrative reports on student attendance and academic data.
- Maintain a neat, clutter-free classroom environment conducive to optimal learning.
- Ensure clear communication with students, parents, and administration regarding policies, procedures, and academic updates.
- Observe professional ethics and maintain strict confidentiality with all stakeholders.
- Return voice-mail and e-mail messages in a timely manner and communicate regularly with parents.
- Demonstrate a respectful demeanor with staff, students, and parents.
- Supervise playground and other assigned duty areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- A cleared California multiple subject teaching credential.
- A Bachelor’s Degree.
- A clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment).
- Experience teaching in an elementary school classroom.
- Positive professional references and recommendations.
- Ability to spend most of the day standing, with occasional sitting, walking, kneeling, squatting, stooping, or bending.
- Ability to reach at various heights and perform trunk or neck rotation.
- Capacity to assist in moving children's desks and chairs, and occasionally lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Mobility to move within the classroom and school facility, and to attend meetings, trainings, and events.
- Potential to travel to various city and county-wide locations for trainings or workshops.
Nice to Have
- Be an active, practicing Roman Catholic.
- Hold a Basic Catechetical Certification.
- Respect and understand a Catholic school philosophy.

Benefits & Compensation
- Salary: $52,000 per year.
