This role is responsible for managing daily transportation operations, optimizing freight movement, and leading a team to ensure reliable and efficient delivery performance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of transportation operations including scheduling, routing, and dispatching
- Ensure on-time delivery performance across all routes and carriers
- Manage relationships with third-party carriers and negotiate freight rates
- Monitor compliance with federal and state transportation regulations
- Analyze transportation data to identify cost-saving opportunities
- Develop and implement routing strategies to improve efficiency
- Supervise dispatch team and provide performance feedback
- Coordinate with warehouse teams to align loading and delivery schedules
- Respond to service disruptions and implement corrective actions
- Maintain accurate transportation records and reporting
- Ensure proper vehicle maintenance and safety standards are followed
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the transportation department
- Prepare and manage transportation budget and expenditures
- Train team members on new systems, policies, and procedures
- Support safety and compliance audits
- Implement tracking systems for real-time shipment visibility
- Collaborate with procurement on vendor selection and performance
- Ensure adherence to environmental and sustainability policies
- Manage incident reporting and claims processes
- Promote a culture of accountability and operational excellence
