Role Overview
We're looking for a Systems Engineer to support and maintain core IT infrastructure in a 24/7 operational environment based in Belfast. You'll play a key role in monitoring systems, responding to incidents, and maintaining the reliability of Windows Server platforms across both physical and cloud-hosted environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor central IT systems and customer-specific infrastructure for performance and availability
- Provide first-line support for Windows Server environments, including versions 2008 through 2019
- Respond to incidents and service requests logged through Remedy, ensuring timely resolution
- Support web applications and IIS services with initial troubleshooting and escalation
- Perform routine system updates, OS patching, and configuration changes
- Manage virtual environments using VMWare, including snapshot and template management
- Collaborate with third-party vendors for system access and issue resolution
- Assist with backup operations, recovery procedures, and failure analysis
- Review application and system logs to identify trends and resolve issues
- Support Exchange platforms (2003–2013) and Office365 services, including archival solutions
Qualifications
You should have prior experience in first- or second-line technical support, particularly with Windows Server systems. Familiarity with VMWare, IP networking fundamentals, and ticketing systems like Remedy is essential. You must be eligible for Security Clearance. Experience with Azure or Unix environments is a strong advantage. Previous work in a rotating shift environment is preferred.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role operating on a rotating shift schedule: four consecutive days on (06:30–18:30), followed by three days off, or four consecutive nights on (18:30–06:30), followed by five days off. The role requires availability during nights and public holidays.
