Wärtsilä is hiring a Supplier Development Engineer specializing in Battery components to join our Energy Storage team. Based in Suzhou, you will be accountable for the quality assurance of Battery Cell, Module, PDU, and BMS products at suppliers. You will focus on ensuring supplier compliance and driving continuous improvement in quality, delivery, lead time, and productivity to meet product and project requirements, working closely with the Battery Integrator Supplier Development and Quality Assurance team.
What You'll Do
- Drive the qualification of new and current suppliers and contractors.
- Execute supplier evaluation activities, including compliance assessments, audits, and audit follow-up.
- Partner with suppliers in new manufacturing process implementation from transition to start-up, qualification, implementation, and ramp-up.
- Work with suppliers to execute process validation and test method validation, and define their process, tools, equipment, and ongoing controls.
- Ensure quality inspections and audits at suppliers are planned and executed to secure adherence to Wärtsilä quality requirements.
- Ensure reported quality issues and audit findings are analyzed, root-caused, and corrected to prevent recurrence.
- Continuously improve suppliers and mitigate risks to achieve targets, collaborating in supplier development programs.
- Participate in product teams with cross-functional members to qualify and improve supplier manufacturing processes and inspection methods.
- Take ownership and action on Quality, Delivery, and Cost activities using defined Supplier Development tools.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures on supplied components and supplier manufacturing processes.
- Organize and lead operational excellence initiatives at suppliers to support cost reduction and performance improvement.
- Conduct inspection and testing to secure a quality product.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience with Battery Cell, Module, PDU and BMS (Battery Management System), electrical engineering, supplier development and/or quality experience in power systems, renewables or energy storage industry.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of interfacing with numerous parties at all levels in a multicultural environment.
- Familiar with analytical techniques commonly used to investigate component defects and ability to deal with administrative and technical tasks.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Strong bias for action and results orientation.
- Self-driven and self-motivated to learn and use knowledge to produce results.
- Able to troubleshoot and solve problems on the manufacturing line.
- Strong solution-oriented approach, capability to implement and persistency to follow-up activities to ensure sustainability and quality.
- Willing to travel 40% of the time.
- Excellent English proficiency (both orally and written).
Nice to Have
- Product and process auditing experience, management system auditing experience with ESG, SA8000, ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 or similar.
- Certification within Lean and/or Six Sigma.
- Experience in product validation and approval process such as Product Part Approval Process (Wärtsilä Supplier and Part Approval Process).
Team & Environment
This role is part of the Supply Management group and works closely with the Battery Integrator Supplier Development and Quality Assurance team.

This is an onsite position based in Suzhou.
