Substitute Teachers at Brella Substitute Teachers play an important role in supporting Brella’s classrooms by stepping in when additional coverage is needed. This part-time role is a great fit for educators who enjoy flexibility, working across age groups, and helping classrooms run smoothly. Substitute Teachers support children ages 3 months to 6 years by assisting with classroom routines, play-based learning, supervision, transitions, meals, rest time, and maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. We welcome substitute educators with a variety of backgrounds and experience levels, from those who have recently completed their Early Childhood Education coursework to experienced teachers looking for meaningful part-time work in early childhood education. As a Substitute Teacher, You Will - Provide a safe and loving environment for children ages 3 months to 6 years in collaboration with and under the direction of classroom teachers - Model empathy, respect, responsiveness, and gentle guidance in daily interactions with children - Engage with children as they explore age-appropriate, stimulating, and thoughtful materials - Support the implementation of Brella’s play-based curriculum under the direction of classroom teachers - Help maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom by following Brella’s procedures, licensing requirements, and classroom guidelines Experience, Knowledge & Abilities - At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent - At least 12 Early Childhood Education units, including 3 infant care units for educators supporting infant classrooms - Experience working in a licensed child care facility required - Ability to meet the requirements of the California Department of Social Services / Community Care Licensing - Ability to display patience, calm, and a loving approach with every child - Collaborative spirit and ability to take direction from classroom teachers and center leaders to support classrooms as needed Part-Time Benefits Substitute Teachers at Brella are part-time and are eligible for: - Competitive pay: $19.50–$23.50/hour - Sick & Safe Time - Flexible, part-time scheduling based on center needs - Opportunities to work across classrooms and age groups - A mission-driven, supportive, and collaborative work environment - Team celebrations and community connection Physical Demands - Move comfortably throughout the classroom and center, including lifting, reaching, squatting, climbing, sitting, walking, bending, and standing for extended periods of time - Safely interact with and physically support children ages 3 months to 6 years using appropriate child-handling techniques - Lift children or classroom materials up to 50 pounds, as needed - Maintain the mental and physical alertness needed to supervise children and respond to daily classroom needs - Respond immediately and appropriately to unexpected situations, safety concerns, or emergencies - Follow all state, federal, and Brella guidelines related to immunizations, employment physicals, required health and safety training, and safe classroom practices The above statements are intended to describe the general nature of work performed, not an exhaustive list of all essential functions and responsibilities.
