About the Role

General Motors is looking for a Staff Test Developer to lead the design and implementation of advanced test automation frameworks, tools, and infrastructure for the AV Sensing Software team. In this role, you will define test strategies, integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines, and champion a culture of quality throughout the development lifecycle.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced test automation frameworks, tools, and infrastructure.
  • Define and drive the overall test strategy for complex features and end-to-end systems, ensuring comprehensive test coverage.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and best practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our testing processes.
  • Contribute significantly to the architectural design and review of new features and systems from a testability, reliability, and performance perspective.
  • Drive a culture of quality throughout the development lifecycle, advocating for shift-left testing principles.
  • Develop and maintain robust, scalable, and maintainable automated tests (unit, integration, API, performance, security) using various programming languages.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring continuous feedback and early detection of issues.
  • Implement advanced monitoring and alerting for production systems to identify and proactively address quality issues.
  • Champion best practices in software development, testing, and quality assurance across the engineering organization.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of progressive experience as a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) or a similar role.
  • At least 2-3 years in technical leadership or staff-level capacity.
  • 10+ years of experience developing in multiple programming languages such as C/C++, Rust, Python, Go, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Deep experience building and maintaining robust test automation frameworks (e.g., PyTest, GoogleTest, Robot Framework, HIL test platforms).
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, BuildKite, Azure DevOps) and integrating automated tests into the pipeline.
  • Strong experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.

Nice to Have

  • Understanding of Vehicle Electrical Architecture and common automotive software design practices.
  • Experience using and developing on open-source automation frameworks such as Robot.
  • Experience building and maintaining hardware-in-the-loop test platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience in Automotive SW Test or Development, including experience with test automation and test or software architecture.
  • Experience with build systems such as Bazel, or alternatives like CMake or Meson.
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux build systems such as Buildroot or Yocto.
  • Experience working with sensor technologies, particularly automotive grade (cameras, lidars, radars, IMUs).

You will be part of the AV Sensing Software team responsible for software that configures devices like lidars, cameras, radars, and IMUs and delivers sensor data to the AV stack.

Work Mode

This is a hybrid position. Role locations include Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, and Mountain View.
