Ashby is hiring a Staff Product Designer who thrives on solving complex challenges and elevating design craft across the organization. This is a multifaceted role where you will be part designer, part product manager, part consultant, and part design system manager. Your core mission is to tackle our most significant design problems while enabling the entire product team to make better design decisions.
What You'll Do
- Consult with engineers on layout, typography, user flows, and other design fundamentals.
- Deeply investigate problems by talking to customers, consulting the go-to-market team, and requesting data to build confident proposals.
- Use Figma to visualize ideas and create artifacts that align stakeholders.
- Write detailed specification documents to secure alignment on major design decisions.
- Own large product features, thinking through Jobs-To-Be-Done, navigation, information architecture, layout, and interaction design.
- Process customer feedback using heuristics to build a usability backlog and propose engineering projects.
- Consolidate and refine our design system into a functional, aesthetic, and best-in-class toolkit.
- Create leverage and impact that exceeds typical EPD team structures.
- Work across a massive product surface area spanning many user types and usability challenges.
- Help reinvent the design model for modern enterprise software, solving problems with flexible tools.
- Help build our design system from (almost) the ground up.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of product design experience, with the majority in desktop SaaS.
- A proven ability to decompose huge, ambiguous projects into actionable parts.
- The ability to articulate patterns of high-performing design teams and create an environment for high performance.
- A track record of leveraging design skills to influence engineering, product, and company-wide decisions.
- Experience creating standards and principles that improve design quality across an entire product organization.
- A first-principles mindset, moving beyond standard UX processes.
- Enough seasoned experience that intuition can solve most usability problems without sole reliance on data or formal research.
- Resourceful curiosity to devise creative solutions and appropriately de-risk them.
- Best-in-class skills in layout, navigation, IA, UI, and interaction design.
- An obsession with craft and details.
Nice to Have
- Experience at an early-stage startup or as a solo designer on a team.
