Ashby is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to help scale its platform infrastructure as the company experiences rapid growth. The engineer will own end-to-end projects, improve developer experience, ensure reliability and security, and build systems that support Ashby’s mission-critical hiring software used by high-growth companies.
What You'll Do
- Optimize Ashby's homegrown ultra-dynamic recruiting DSL-to-SQL compiler and create tools to help developers do so
- Create automated guardrails for the security and privacy of customer data
- Help developers ship features fast through canary deploys, gradual rollouts, and feature flags while managing complexity and reducing downtime
- Work with business and engineering teams to define SLOs and implement corresponding SLIs
- Ensure all communication with external services supports retries and circuit-breakers
- Implement infrastructure to support an event-driven architecture and data warehouse
- Own projects end-to-end and impact core parts of the Ashby developer and user experience
- Debug thorny issues and make good technical decisions under scale
- Contribute to developer tooling and reliability
- Be on call in a follow-the-sun model
What We're Looking For
- Curious, rigorous, and problem-hungry mindset
- Ability to own projects end-to-end with minimal oversight
- Experience building infrastructure at a slightly later stage than Ashby’s current phase
- Proven ability to deliver projects independently without constant prodding
- Strong coding skills — must be willing and able to write and review code daily
- Comfort with debugging across systems: infrastructure, Kubernetes, databases, and application code (e.g., TypeScript traces)
- Excellent written communication skills — must be able to share best practices asynchronously
- Deep understanding of risk evaluation in system design and operations
- Experience with scaling systems handling millions of data points
- Automation experience across provisioning, monitoring, and release processes
- Familiarity with SQL — must be comfortable diving into complex queries and data models
- Belief in code-as-infrastructure and infrastructure automation
