As a Staff Engineer on the Identity Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our identity and access management systems. You'll lead the design and implementation of a modern, secure, and scalable identity platform using cutting-edge technologies like Auth0, OAuth2, and OIDC. In this role, you'll drive technical strategy, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, maintainable solutions. You'll also modernize legacy systems, implement fine-grained access controls, and help define engineering standards that elevate the entire organization’s development practices. This is a high-impact role with visibility across engineering and product leadership, requiring deep technical expertise and strong communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the strategic vision for the Identity Platform in collaboration with product and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain a secure, scalable API gateway that serves as the central entry point for all public APIs, integrated with Auth0.
- Transition legacy authentication systems to Auth0, implementing refresh token rotation, fine-grained access controls, and multi-tenancy.
- Serve as the internal subject-matter expert on enterprise identity and access management, including Auth0, OAuth2, OIDC, and fine-grained authorization.
- Create reusable development assets, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering standards to enhance development speed and code quality.
- Provide technical leadership in architecture, security, and cloud-native design to guide team practices.
- Foster strong collaboration across engineering and product teams to align on requirements and advance key initiatives.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years in a leadership or management role overseeing software engineering functions.
- At least 5 years of experience delivering commercial software products, with a preference for Go.
- Proven track record designing, building, and operationalizing identity and authentication platforms for enterprise use.
- Extensive knowledge of identity providers such as Auth0, Okta, Authentik, or Keycloak.
- Experience developing internal developer platforms or frameworks for mid-to-large-sized organizations, including tools like Backstage.io or Humanitec.
- Hands-on experience implementing authorization systems such as OPA or OpenFGA.
- Familiarity with containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
- Proficiency with CI/CD tools including GitHub Actions, GitLab, CircleCI, Argo, or Kargo.
- Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.
- Understanding of observability practices and tools such as DataDog, Splunk, Prometheus, or New Relic.
- Working knowledge of AWS services including ECS, Lambda, and RDS.
- Experience building RESTful APIs using HTTP, JSON, and related technologies.
- Demonstrated focus on operational excellence, rapid execution, and disciplined prioritization.
- Adaptability in fast-paced, evolving technical environments.
- Growth-oriented mindset with openness to feedback and continuous improvement.
