Vistahigherlearning Careers is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our Development team. You will design, build, and scale backend systems while integrating AI-powered capabilities for language education products serving K-12 and Higher Education markets.

Participate in all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle
Perform tests to optimize application performance
Write clean code to develop functioning web applications
Collaborate effectively with team members to deliver on-time projects

What We're Looking For

Bachelor’s Degree
7+ years as a Senior Software Engineer with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, or Python + JavaScript
Demonstrated software architectural design experience, including data persistence and API design
Strong understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and LLM APIs
Strong understanding of networking and web browser protocols
Advanced working knowledge of *nix systems and comfort at the terminal command line
Advanced SQL and database schema design knowledge
Advanced working knowledge of git & GitHub
Experience collaborating with other departments and teams
Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills

Nice to Have

Backend/Full stack development and AI Tooling experience
Knowledge around LLM evaluation and MLOps practices
Experience with Sagemaker, AWS Poly, or Azure Speech Service
Experience with SQL, Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch
Experience building high-capacity applications in cloud environments, especially AWS
A strong understanding of architecting for scalability and performance
Experience with Ruby highly preferred
Experience in ed-tech, education, or language-learning
Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and 2.1 AA compliance
