About the Role

Nationwide Life and Annuity Insurance Co is looking for a Specialist, Risk Management - P&C to evaluate high-complexity middle market risks for agribusiness clients across select US regions. You will conduct onsite surveys to identify and evaluate Property and Casualty insurance exposures, inspect operations, consult with Underwriting, and deliver comprehensive technical reports.

What You'll Do

  • Research client information, business history, industry, and technical data using internal and external resources.
  • Analyze loss exposures, control effectiveness, and historical loss information for patterns.
  • Analyze assigned client portfolios to identify frequency and severity trends, prioritizing survey activity.
  • Identify improvement and service opportunities based on loss trends and communicate solutions to customers.
  • Advise Underwriting on risk insurability, coverages, and client operational risk control effectiveness.
  • Determine when additional internal assistance is needed to help clients improve risk management programs.
  • Manage travel, personal workload, and special projects to meet agreed timelines.
  • Consult with Underwriting on account rehabilitation and work directly with those accounts.
  • Consult with clients, internal business partners, and agents regarding risk analysis, recommendations, and service needs.
  • Create comprehensive technical reports and recommendations addressing hazards and controls.
  • Communicate risk reduction recommendations verbally and in writing to underwriting, clients, and agent partners.
  • Work cooperatively and build strong working relationships with clients' Senior Leadership.
  • Function as an ongoing risk management resource for clients and business partners.
  • Participate in training classes, department, and company meetings.
  • Assist in creating a professional development plan and be accountable for progress.
  • May serve as mentor for other Risk Management Consultants or interns as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Ability to obtain required Federal and/or State licenses/registrations within a designated time period.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record per Nationwide standards.
  • Ability to conduct physical survey inspections, climb, stoop, bend, balance on various heights, crawl, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent and overnight travel required.
  • Ability to prioritize work/time.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and learn/use applicable systems.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively communicate on complex exposures and controls through efficient reports.

Nice to Have

  • BS/BA studies in insurance, risk management, agriculture, food, engineering, business administration, or a safety-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Six to eight years’ experience in commercial underwriting, commercial claims adjusting, loss control/safety, or associated commercial insurance fields.
  • Associated insurance designations.
  • Knowledge of worker’s compensation, fleet, general liability, and property insurance coverage.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk management issues, loss drivers, and risk controls associated with various commercial industries.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desire to learn, grow, and develop as a risk management professional.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Team & Environment

You will be part of the agribusiness risk management team within the Property and Casualty organization. The role reports to a manager or director and does not have direct reports.

  • Compensation: National range: $95,500.00-$177,500.00. Expected starting range: $95,500.00 - $143,500.00.

Work Mode

This is a remote position. The company intends to fill this role in Washington or Oregon to best serve travel requirements.
