As a Space Surveillance Engineer I, you will play a key role in advancing space safety and security by helping to build and refine next-generation surveillance systems. Your work will focus on integrating hardware components, simulating system performance, and developing software to automate how sensor data is tasked, collected, and analyzed across a distributed global network.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and evaluate system architectures for space surveillance sensors, ensuring alignment with organizational values and operational goals
- Develop and optimize algorithms in Python or C++ to improve data processing, tasking efficiency, and autonomous operations
- Support the deployment and transition of technologies to operational environments, including testbeds and space operations centers
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand mission requirements and deliver effective technical solutions
- Produce clear technical documentation and briefings for internal and external audiences
- Contribute innovative ideas to product development and strategic planning
- Travel as needed—up to 5%—for customer engagements, technical coordination, or sensor setup
Qualifications
Applicants must be U.S. citizens eligible for government security clearance. A bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field is required, along with at least one year of relevant experience—such as academic projects or internships demonstrating strong technical ability. Proficiency in Python or C++ is essential, as is clear, effective communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Background
- Advanced degree in engineering, applied mathematics, or physical sciences
- Proven experience deploying software in Linux environments
- Hands-on work with optics, mechanical systems, or embedded development
- Exposure to image processing, machine learning, remote sensing, radiometry, or astrodynamics
- Familiarity with estimation theory, statistical analysis, or GPU-accelerated computing
- Experience in early-stage startups or fast-paced technical environments
Technology Environment
The role operates within a stack centered on Python and C++, running on Linux platforms, with regular interaction across sensor data pipelines, algorithm development, hardware integration, and high-performance computing systems. Expertise in GPU programming, autonomous operations, or space object tracking is highly beneficial.
Work Model
This is a hybrid position requiring occasional travel—up to 5%—domestically and internationally—for technical coordination, customer support, or sensor deployment.
Culture and Values
The team values initiative, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to excellence. We prioritize action over approval, learning over ego, and believe impactful ideas can emerge from any level. Speed, resilience, and a willingness to iterate through challenges are central to how we work.
