Shape the future of secure, high-impact systems as a Software Systems Engineer working on advanced national defense and intelligence solutions. You'll lead technical strategy, system architecture, and requirements analysis across the software development lifecycle, ensuring robust, scalable designs that meet mission demands.
What You’ll Do
- Lead or support analysis of customer needs and translate them into system-level requirements, allocating functions across components and subsystems
- Conduct functional and performance evaluations, design trade studies, and system integration efforts to optimize technical outcomes
- Define and document software architectures using modeling and systems engineering practices to align stakeholders
- Guide technical direction across design, development, testing, and deployment phases, adapting to evolving requirements
- Support business development through technical proposals, demonstrations, and solution design input
- Collaborate across engineering, program management, and customer teams to maintain alignment and drive shared goals
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
- Identify risks early and define practical trade spaces to support agile decision-making
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or a related STEM field
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 6 months of experience
- Ability to obtain a Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance
- U.S. citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience in systems engineering for complex software systems
- Familiarity with Department of Defense programs and operational environments
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for requirements and design
- Knowledge of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, RHOSP, and VIO
- Experience with PaaS technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, and IAM
- Skill with automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, Terragrunt, and Packer
- Background in cybersecurity practices including encryption, STIG, RMF, and security hardening
- Understanding of DevOps principles and multi-level security domains
- Demonstrated systems-level thinking and initiative in self-directed work
Work Environment
This role operates on a hybrid schedule, with flexibility to balance remote and on-site work. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA, and is not fully remote. Compensation and Development
