1X is hiring a Software Engineer - Teleoperation

About the Role

The role involves building and maintaining software that allows human operators to remotely control robotic systems with precision and low latency. You will work on real-time communication, user interface tools, and safety-critical features that support teleoperated robotics.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement software for real-time remote control of robotic systems
  • Develop low-latency communication protocols between operators and robots
  • Create intuitive user interfaces for teleoperation workflows
  • Ensure system reliability and responsiveness under variable network conditions
  • Collaborate with robotics and AI teams to integrate teleoperation into broader autonomy frameworks
  • Build tools for operator training, monitoring, and intervention
  • Implement safety mechanisms to prevent unintended robot behavior
  • Optimize data streaming for video, sensor input, and control signals
  • Support deployment of teleoperation systems in real-world environments
  • Diagnose and resolve software issues in both simulation and field settings
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to team engineering standards
  • Work with hardware teams to ensure compatibility with robotic platforms
  • Develop automated testing frameworks for teleoperation features
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from operators to improve usability
  • Maintain high availability and fault tolerance in control systems
  • Ensure compliance with security standards for remote access
  • Contribute to incident response and post-mortem analysis
  • Support integration with machine learning models for assisted teleoperation
  • Participate in on-call rotations for production system support

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in robotics, computer science, or related field
  • Experience with safety-critical software development
  • Background in human-machine interaction design
  • Knowledge of real-time operating systems
  • Experience with edge computing in robotics
  • Contributions to open-source robotics projects
  • Prior work in autonomous or semi-autonomous systems
