Sully.ai is looking for a Software Engineer, Research Associate to work on an applied AI research initiative building adaptive LLM systems for clinical reasoning. You will collaborate directly with the lead researcher to take the system from design to deployment, focusing on complexity-based model selection, ensembling, and cost-efficient routing.

What You'll Do

Implement a modular software architecture as defined in the project’s design documents.
Modify and extend existing prototype code to support new features and experiments.
Set up benchmarking pipelines and evaluation systems with academic datasets.
Build supporting modules from clear design specs, such as medical task classifiers and model routing logic.
Integrate techniques from academic literature, ensuring clarity and consistency in code contributions.
Maintain fast turnaround on implementation tasks and provide regular progress updates.

What We're Looking For

Proficient in Python, with experience writing clean, modular, and well-documented code.
General programming skills including Git, debugging workflows, and familiarity with API-based development and structured outputs like JSON.
Basic understanding of machine learning concepts and comfort reading and implementing academic research papers.
Ability to follow design specifications and translate academic descriptions into production code.
Comfortable in asynchronous, research-oriented environments with strong communication skills.
High attention to detail for accurate, reproducible implementations.
Early career experience; recent graduates with strong technical foundations are encouraged to apply.
