About the Role

The University of Rochester is seeking a Software Engineer I to apply technical knowledge to create, modify, and maintain software applications and systems that provide significant value to the University community. You will build websites and applications through coding, testing, and database interactions, supporting existing systems with a focus on customer service.

What You'll Do

  • Utilize modern programming languages to build full-stack software meeting business requirements, including developing functional code, implementing data integration, and building APIs.
  • Design functional processes, user experiences, and user interfaces.
  • Design data models and database schemas.
  • Add functionality and features to existing applications.
  • Replace aging code with modern best practices.
  • Investigate and resolve reported issues with applications and systems through critical thinking and debugging.
  • Assist with documenting systems, procedures, and policies for ongoing support.
  • Participate in project management and planning, estimating efforts for assigned tasks and setting milestones.
  • Communicate expectations and status regarding project tasks.
  • Keep abreast of the latest application development trends and apply them when appropriate.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing efforts and code reviews within the team and across the organization.

What We're Looking For

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Experience with and knowledge of a modern object-oriented programming language and framework.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1-year relevant experience.
  • Experience with multiple programming languages and frameworks, retrieving and writing data to databases, and designing database schemas and data models.
  • Experience with industry standard development tools and technologies, including IDEs like Visual Studio and source control tools like Git.
  • Experience with project management methodologies, including Agile, from planning through implementation.
  • Experience in the higher education, medical, or healthcare industry.
  • Exposure to administering servers, including patching, configuring, and debugging issues.
  • AWS Certified Developer Cloud certification, such as Azure Developer or AWS Developer Associate upon hire.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary range: $63,815.00 - $95,723.00
