Viasat is hiring a part-time Software Engineer - Embedded/Cloud to build, develop, and test components for our global narrowband communication network. In this role, you will focus on enhancing security, performance, and resilience with minimal downtime, working within established processes on a collaborative team.
What You'll Do
- Integrate and troubleshoot embedded systems software.
- Maintain infrastructure-as-code repositories following GitOps principles, updating them for new software and OS releases.
- Conduct peer reviews and collaborate on code using Git.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and project partners to deliver quality software products on time and within scope.
- Be an active member of an Agile multidisciplinary development team.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience using C/C++ in embedded environments.
- 3+ years of experience with Linux/Unix OS, ideally in an embedded environment.
- US Citizenship is required.
- This is a part-time role.
Nice to Have
- Agile Scrum development experience.
- Knowledge of integration with CI/CD frameworks (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Artifactory).
- Experience maintaining GitOps infrastructure-as-code repositories.
- Experience working with and developing in OpenShift and Kubernetes environments.
- Some experience with scripting languages like Python and Bash.
- Experience with automated test tools and scripting.
- Ability to plan, track, and document progress using tools like JIRA, Jama, Agile, and Wiki.
