Whatnot is hiring a Software Engineer, Customer Experience

About the Role

Whatnot is looking for a Software Engineer, Customer Experience to lead backend engineering for the Customer Experience Platform team. You will build a high-volume support platform for buyers and sellers, creating new user-facing experiences, scaling internal infrastructure, and designing intelligent AI-powered automations.

What You'll Do

  • Build new user-facing experiences and scale internal infrastructure.
  • Design intelligent AI-powered automations to help solve thousands of customer issues per hour.
  • Lead solutions end to end, translating ambiguous business problems into clear technical solutions.
  • Drive delivery and experimentation, balancing development speed, product impact, and technical excellence.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience in high growth startups.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven track record of building end-to-end product experiences and scaling high-scale backend systems.
  • Ownership mindset, owning projects holistically from inception to production and beyond.
  • Product instinct, excelling at translating user needs to effective technical solutions.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and tackle challenging problems with creativity and autonomy.
  • Team leadership skills, proactively improving the team environment and fostering an inclusive culture.
  • Must be within commuting distance of San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, or New York hubs.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Python, Elixir, and/or Postgres.
