Barco is seeking a Software Engineer to join our innovative Barco Labs team. You will participate in research projects exploring emerging technologies and contribute directly to demonstrators and proof-of-concepts that shape the future of healthcare. You'll work within a multidisciplinary team of researchers, developers, product managers, and clinical experts.
What You'll Do
- Seek to deeply understand end-user, partner, and patient problems to conceive innovative solutions.
- Implement first-of-a-kind prototypes and proof-of-concepts iteratively and in close collaboration with internal and external clinical partners.
- Work with and explore new technologies.
- Stay up to date with academic, international standardization, regulatory, and commercial developments in computer science, healthcare imaging, and visualization.
- Share insights and interact with peers internally and externally at conferences.
- Collaborate with peers, internal stakeholders, and external partners to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions to challenging problems.
What We're Looking For
- A Master's degree in computer science or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong software engineering background in modern languages like Python, C/C++, TypeScript and their ecosystems.
- Basic experience with cloud platforms like AWS.
- Hands-on experience with Linux platforms, Docker, and embedded systems.
- Proficiency with software engineering tooling and best practices, including git, GitHub, CI/CD, and the Atlassian stack.
- Background or interest in AI and machine learning, including data collection, exploration, cleaning, training, and MLOps.
- Experience with image processing and hardware acceleration using GPUs (CUDA, Vulkan, OpenGL, shaders).
- Ability to follow current technology trends like LLMs, Generative AI, and Agent AI and identify real value.
- A creative, maker mindset to build test setups and proofs-of-concept with available equipment, selecting the right tool for the job.
- Work thoroughly and independently, with great perseverance towards meeting requirements and constraints.
- Pro-active initiative and end-to-end problem ownership.
- Loyal team player with strong English communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Prior knowledge of medical imaging, such as processing or the DICOM file format.
- Experience in a medical device development context (MDD/MDR, regulatory pathways, SaMD, EU AI Act).
- Experience interacting with healthcare organizations, including data collection protocols and clinical studies.
- Interest in collaborating in a broader eco-system and contributing to funded research.
- Dutch language skills are a plus.
