Altruist is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer

This role is central to building and maintaining highly reliable, scalable systems within a cloud-native environment. The engineer will focus on performance, resilience, and operational excellence to support a rapidly growing AI-powered fintech platform.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and deployment of scalable, complex systems using AWS and Kubernetes
  • Design and implement highly available and fault-tolerant infrastructure for a cloud-native platform
  • Support and enhance Java-based applications that power core financial advisory and investment tools
  • Ensure systems are secure, high-performing, and capable of meeting strict reliability standards
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture
  • Develop and manage incident response, disaster recovery, and capacity planning strategies
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define, track, and improve SLOs and SLIs
  • Drive initiatives to enhance system performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Translate system metrics into meaningful reliability targets and improvement actions
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve scalability and operational efficiency

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering or a closely related field
  • Deep expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
  • Strong programming background with experience in automation frameworks
  • Proven experience supporting business-critical applications built with Java
  • Educational background ideally includes a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly master new technologies and modern tech stacks
  • Strong sense of ownership and pride in delivering high-quality work
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening and clear articulation of ideas
  • Resilience and determination in overcoming technical and operational challenges
  • Creative problem-solving skills with an instinct for identifying root causes and effective solutions

Nice to Have

  • Experience with DevOps infrastructure tools and AI technologies
  • Familiarity with Apache Spark and AI-driven systems

Compensation

San Francisco, CA salary range: $200,000 - $250,000 USD. Equity in the form of Stock Options (ISOs) for eligible roles. Total compensation includes a competitive benefits package. Base salaries are reviewed regularly in alignment with performance evaluations.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid work model with primary locations in Los Angeles (Culver City) and San Francisco Bay Area (FiDi). Employees are expected to be in the office at least three days per week.
