Suffolk University is hiring a Sergeant

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the assigned shift, including police officers, security officers, and dispatchers.
  • Conduct regular visits to all posts to verify proper equipment operation, correct staffing deployment, adherence to conduct and dress standards, and maintenance of discipline.
  • Report misconduct when observed and ensure all incidents are accurately documented with appropriate follow-up actions taken.
  • Review and process all shift reports and operational records, ensuring completeness and compliance.
  • Respond to emergencies and assume command as Incident Commander when higher-ranking personnel are unavailable.
  • Manage administrative duties in addition to shift supervision, as assigned.
  • Organize and deliver orientation and ongoing training sessions for department staff.
  • Develop and coordinate staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Support the development and revision of departmental policies through research and collaboration.
  • Plan and arrange security and police presence for special events on campus.
  • Coordinate the procurement and distribution of uniforms for personnel.
  • Oversee the inventory, maintenance, and functionality of all equipment.
  • Follow up on incident reports to confirm resolution and proper documentation.
  • Ensure all required reports are completed and filed according to protocol.
  • Perform patrol duties when not engaged in supervisory or administrative responsibilities.
