Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end design processes for map-based user interfaces
- Conduct user research to uncover needs and behaviors related to map interaction
- Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for evaluation
- Translate complex geospatial data into clear, usable visual representations
- Collaborate with product managers to define design requirements
- Work closely with software engineers to ensure accurate implementation
- Advocate for user-centered design principles across development teams
- Evaluate design solutions through usability testing and feedback loops
- Maintain and evolve design systems for consistency across platforms
- Present design concepts and rationale to stakeholders and team members
- Integrate accessibility standards into visual and interactive design
- Stay current with trends in cartography, UX, and interface technologies
- Support the creation of design guidelines specific to map visualization
- Contribute to long-term vision for map user experience
- Balance user needs with technical constraints and business goals
- Iterate on designs based on qualitative and quantitative data
- Ensure designs function effectively across devices and screen sizes
- Use design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or equivalent for deliverables
- Document design decisions and design patterns for team reference
- Mentor junior designers and contribute to team growth
- Participate in cross-functional design reviews and critiques
- Identify opportunities to improve map legibility and information hierarchy
- Design for real-time data display and dynamic map updates
- Support localization and global usability considerations
- Work within agile development cycles and sprints
